Killer SCREAM
Can you believe this December marked the 20th anniversary of SCREAM!?!?
Here in the killer opening scene of Scream 2, Maureen Evans, played by Jada Pinkett Smith, snuggles in with her boyfriend during the premier of a new slasher film only to be stabbed 7 times by the real Ghostface. And did you notice her earrings? Yup, our Hummingbird Earring in Sterling Silver.
Kevin Williamson and Wes Craven completely revitalized the slasher film genre that had all but vanished in the late 90s while simultaneously deconstructing it. Scream became the movie of the 90s and influenced generations of genre fans to come.
Scream gave us “the rules" for surviving a horror film.
Laid out by our resident film nerd, Randy Meeks. Rules we all know by heart - like “never say “I’ll be right back” in a horror film or you’ll be the next to die. Winking at the audience while acknowledging the existence of other horror films, Scream bantered with the audience throughout the film switching between tongue in cheek cliques and super scary scenes. And if that wasn't enough, there were some brilliant cameos to see if you were really knew the genre - like Linda Blair from Exorcist as a TV news reporter and Wes Craven played the creepy school janitor dressed like Freddy Krueger, of course.
Scream blew people's minds, both horror aficionados and the casual moviegoer. One of the highest-grossing films of 1996, Scream became, and remains, the highest grossing slasher film in the world. Scream 2 not only broke box-office records in 1997, many critics argue it was actually superior to the original.
Sydney Prescott, played by Neve Campbell, wore Lee Brevard jewelry throughout the film series. A classic mismatched pair of Brevard earrings were her signature look in Scream 2 - our Tiny Signature Cross with Stone and Double Heart with Stone Earrings in sterling silver. For more information about the Cinq Cross Necklace and various Rings worn in the film, please contact the studio. Genre fans notice EVERY detail of a character, so when fans are still asking about Sydney Prescott’s or Maureen Evan’s jewelry 20 years later, we know their jewelry has become an integral part of their personas which is pretty darn cool.
